Vision Statement

South Carolina Conference

2005-2008

Vision:  Make Disciples (learners and followers) of Jesus Christ

Purpose:  To make disciples for Jesus Christ by equipping local churches for ministry and by providing a connection for a ministry beyond the local church; all to the glory of God.

                                                                                     601 The Book of Discipline

Imperatives:

  1. Promote disciple making in local congregations through such ministries as DISCIPLE Bible Study, FAITH QUEST, and THE CHRISTIAN BELIEVER, resources through the Board of Discipleship.

  2. Develop a focused ministry of evangelism, congregational development, and congregational re-development to relate to Christ and to the Church.

  3. Nurture our unity across the lines that sometimes divide us (racially, culturally, theologically, etc. - i.e. nurture unity that also appreciates diversity)  while maintaining our doctrinal and Wesleyan integrity.

  4. Recruit, develop and nurture trained and committed lay and clergy leadership with an understanding of the differences and the complementary nature of each.

  5. support a focused, conference-wide outreach ministry.

  6. Be a visible witness to the stance of The United Methodist Church in concerns and issues of the larger society.

Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism...
